Big brown trout fly fishing in Iceland with Rodtrip (Iceland part 2 – “Fifty-five+ river”)

We finally arrive at the bank of the river we’d most looked forward to. Yet again we don’t have any luck, as the water has turned completely green.. Why is it coloured like that ? Because of an algae plage in the upstream lake that feeds this river, caused by the unusual high temperature these days. And so the riverwater is dirty as hell, filled with algae, completely brown, completely green, and we instantly lose our confidence. At this point we’ve been fishing for 15 minutes! Jérem had a first take after 10 minutes though. We decided to use our intermediate lines to fish a streamer both fast and deep. And it did deliver rather fast. 5th cast and a rather good trout hits the streamer. I think we could catch some nice fish here! Yahoooo! Shit she’s big! Yeah Math !
Long live Iceland! A nice Icelandic fish. It’s too big. It’s not easy huh? What do you think Jérémy ? Jep, very very hard.. Very very hard Big fly haha Where as the upstream part of this morning was very good Yet here it ain’t easy huh We’ve been fishing this stretch for two hours, and not a single attack on our streamer, nothing! We’re fishing a large stretch of wide water, and there’s not really a good trout hide-out around. But from what we heard there should be huge trout in this stretch. That’s about our only motivation. We’ll see what happens and keep on trying to catch them trout. I think that’s the reason fishing is allowed untill 23h around here. Yep, the river keeper told that trout is active early in the morning or late in the evening. Good thing we had a good morning session. Absolutely… we fished well this morning, that was cool. I wish we had the same kind of activity here damnit! With big trout. Well, we caught big ones… but I’m talking about even bigger ones.. I tell you, we’ll stay foot untill 23h. We won’t stop trying, that’s for sure! That’s the key. In that big pool maybe. Shit, I’m being eaten alive here… time to get my net on. Oh shit Shit yeah We’ve been searching for a fish like that for more than 3 hours without a single take And bang. Thanks to our small apple-break. It did do us well, that apple-break. The famous apple-break! Shit, not the place for small fish to hang out here! What a great trout! It’s huge… 62cm of muscles We just saw a rising. We’re going to try something big. That‘ll do it! It’s a nuthouse around here. We’ve never seen this size of big fish… everywhere! I have the idea that there’s not a single one under 50cm around here. We’ll see.. It’s on, we’ll try to catch it on a dry. I missed it. She took my dry, but I stroke to soon. My bad… it’s stress kicking in. Ow shit, it tooks my fly! The immense power of that fish! It’s completely crazy, it’s brilliant! Let’s go and head back for dinner! I think it’s about… it’s 23h02..
Yep, it’s time we head back, it’s time to stop! You sent how good it smells?
The chef is working on our orders..
