Ron Colby with Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits.
One of the baits that has made Gary Yamamoto really famous is this senko. This is a 4 inch
senko. All it is is just a straight plastic, very extremely soft plastic. It’s impregnated
with some scents and flavors. How we’ve rigged this today is weightless; there’s
not a weight on here and Texas rig. What we’ve done is just basically put the bait up threw
the nose, onto the hook, bring it right back around, go where the little egg sack is. It’s
a smoother part. This bait has a smooth part right here in the middle. That’s where when
you’re fishing this and you’re trying to pick a hook, you want to get a hook size
that’ll fit this bait so the hook will go right to the back of that egg sack and then
come into the egg sack and pick it. If you pick one that’s too small, you’re going
to be tearing your baits off a lot. If you pick one too big, you’re not going to get
the action you want. That’s just weightless, Texas rig. What you’ll want to do is just
flip this into the brush, pretty weedless, and as it sinks, it sits there and it shakes.
It’s kind of hard to show up, but that tail just sits there and shakes and it goes down
and shakes just like that. The fish can’t stand it; they have to eat it.
