Active State Licensed Commercial Fishery


COMMERCIAL FISHERY HAS ADDED ABOUT 25 MILLION DOLLARS TO THE MICHIGAN ECONOMY OVER THE PAST YEAR. COMMERCIAL FISHERY STATE OF MICHIGAN>>DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES HAS RELEASED DATA FROM ITS 2013 STATE-LICENSED COMMERCIAL FISHING SEASON. IT SHOWS THAT FISHERY PROVIDES ABOUT THREE HUNDRED JOBS IN THE INDUSTRY BY MOVING FISH FROM DOCSIDE SELLS TO WHOLESALE MARKETS TO RESTAURANTS TO PUBLIC PLATES, ALL LEADING TO AN ESTIMATED 25 MILLION DOLLARS ANNUALLY. THIS IS DUE TO A 35 PERCENT INCREASE IN THE VALUE OF FISH IN 2013 COMPARED TO 2012. MICHIGAN HAS 20 SEPARATE BUSINESSES THAT OWN AND OPERATE THE 31 ACTIVE STATE COMMERCIAL LICENSES.
